Rob Baldwin is a conservation biologist and landscape planner at Clemson University, where he teaches Introductory GIS and graduate courses. He has a Ph.D. in Ecology and Environmental Sciences from the University of Maine. He collaborates with scientists and conservationists broadly across the United States and Canada. Recently, he helped to initiate landscape conservationgraduate education in India. Collaborators represent leading institutions including the Smithsonian, The Nature Conservancy, US Fish and Wildlife Service, and universities.

In South Carolina, he has a leadership role in statewide and regional efforts to prioritize conservation actions for sustainable development. Notably, private industry is a primary stakeholder. He and his students produce large-extent mapped models representing networks of land and water that promote sustainability and resilience. He believes no education is complete without extensive field work and analysis of original, empirical data.  His students have all conducted field study within their regions of interest. Special ecosystems he has worked in include Appalachian forests, Cowasee-Wateree Basin, historical rice fields of the Low Country, and forested wetlands. He has spent full semesters teaching immersion programs in the field. He has mentored dozens of students and his graduates are employed globally in academia, government, industry, and NGOs.
